Bishop David Ricken of the Diocese of Green Bay, Wisconsin, made history on December 8th, 2010. He became the first bishop in the United States to formally approve an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
In 1859, Our Lady had appeared three times to a young Belgian farm girl at a spot north east of [...]
Imagine Jesus Christ spending the whole day with you: sitting with you at breakfast, going to work, being part of your conversations. Would you feel uncomfortable, or comforted? The Bible teaches us that God really is with us every moment of the day. What in your life needs to change to make room for Him? [click post for audio content]
In December the Church celebrates one of my favorite days, the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast celebrates the truth that Mary was preserved from all stain of sin from the first moment of her existence, which is a beautiful testament to the power of God’s grace. [...]
Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His [...]
We all hate to wait for things. This gets us into all kinds of trouble, both with food and also with relationships. God has something better planned for us. How do we learn about God’s plan? We easily forget this simple fact because we see the church building, the Ten Commandments, the Pope and the priests, and Sunday Mass, but we don’t see Jesus. Yet he is the the center of all of it. He became our model to show us how to live as human beings. He is also our friend who wants to walk with us, and the Suffering Servant Savior who died to free us from sin. He sends us the Spirit of Love and Be Loved who makes us children of the Loving Father and imitators of the Son. Living as he lived and loving as he loved, Christians are little Christs — and that’s the point of Christianity. [click post for audio content]
What is the point of Christianity? Popular opinion says that Christianity means: if you’re trying to be good, when you die you get a ticket to heaven. But we have lots of hopes and dreams like health, wealth, a job, a good home, a wife and children… Not only does Christianity seem to promise something I don’t really want, it even gets in the way of fulfilling my dreams. But that isn’t true, because the popular idea of Christianity is wrong. Real Christianity is found in the words of Jesus. He teaches us this fundamental truth: the Loving Fatherhood of God. God the Father wants you to be happy, successful and fulfilled, but he has a better plan for success than we do. There are two more fundamental truths, so stay tuned. [click post for audio content]
VATICAN CITY, 6 NOV 2010 (VIS) – At 4.30 p.m. today Benedict XVI celebrated Mass for the Holy Year of Santiago de Compostela in the city’s Plaza de Obradoiro, so called because it once housed the workshops of the stonemasons who worked on the cathedral.
